The programme questions ‘some of the assumptions usually made about the tradition of European painting’ (Berger, 1972) from around 1400 – 1900. Being a child of the 70’s it also stirred a great sense of nostalgia and highlighted culture and ‘ways of seeing’ have changed even more in the last 50 years. This series is still as relevant today as it was when it was broadcast in 1972.
